Dallas String Quartet - In Concert

There is no charge for these concerts as all concerts are funded through grants or private and corporate donations through mail, at the door, or through our website.

Dallas String Quartet

Founded in 2007 by award-winning violist Ion Zanca, The Dallas String Quartet has quickly become the area’s quartet of choice.

About Ion Zanca

DALLAS–(2010)–Violist Ion Zanca was born in Romania in 1980. He began studying piano at the age of five and viola at age nine. He attended the National Conservatory of Music in Bucharest from 1999-2001. From 2001-2003, Zanca continued his music education at Louisiana State University.

He graduated with his Bachelors in Music Performance from Southern Methodist University. He currently holds a Masters Degree in Music Performance from SMU having studied with violist Ellen Rose, principal of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He has also been privileged to study with Paul Silverthorne, principal of the London Symphony, and Evan N. Wilson, principal of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

 

 

Zanca has performed with numerous orchestras in Europe, and the United States. Local orchestras include the Dallas, Plano, and Irving Symphonies. He has had solo performances with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra and won SMU’s concerto competition for best chamber music. He also placed in the Hellam Competition and was invited to play principal viola in Philadelphia with the Atlantic Coast Opera, and was a finalist in the Doria International Competition in Japan.

Eco-Harmony Documentary Filming

The Dallas String Quartet was recently featured in a documentary, “Eco-Harmony,” produced by Twist & Shout Communications of London for Alcatel-Lucent, Paris. The film correlates the way individual musicians must perform together to the way individual businesses must work together to make a difference in the environment.
