Performers Biography

Anne-Marie Houy Shaver, flute

Anne-Marie Houy Shaver is a musicologist, flutist, and educator originally from the Texas Hill Country. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in musicology at Arizona State University with advisor Dr. Sabine Feisst. Anne-Marie's focus is ecomusicology and she is part of the Acoustic Ecology Lab at ASU. She is also receiving training in the Deep Listening Certificate Program.

Anne-Marie Houy Shaver, flute

Anne-Marie holds a bachelor of arts degree in music from Abilene Christian University ('12) and a dual masters degree in music history and flute performance from Baylor University ('15). Her thesis advisor was Dr. Robin Wallace. Past flute teachers include Jennifer Hallford, Sheila Kraus, Marcia Straughn, Dr. Karla Ordonez, and Dr. Francesca Arnone; Anne-Marie was also a part of Robert Dick's contemporary flute studio in New York City during the fall of 2016.

Her research interests involve ecomusicology, listening practices, and contemporary music/performance. She aims to use acoustic ecology to encourage community engagement, increased sonic awareness, and a connection to the environment. As a performer, she enjoys promoting new music, especially through the use of extended techniques.

Along with music, Anne-Marie enjoys art, hiking, reading, puppies, all things Harry Potter, and eating foods of the chocolate variety.
