Biography
The Apollo Chamber Players is committed to providing educational concerts, masterclasses, and programs to schools and institutions in the Houston area and beyond. As members of Young Audiences of Houston, a non-profit arts-in-education provider reaching 330,000 students, Apollo presents folk-themed educational programs at schools and student music festivals in Houston and Texas at large. Our vision incorporates Apollo’s culturally-inspired mission into the fabric of our educational presentations.
Apollo extends its outreach in the community by presenting as many concerts to the public as possible in diverse settings and contexts. Further community outreach is accomplished by the mediums of radio and internet, as our segments on Houston Public Radio’s (91.7 FM KUHA) The Front Row performing arts program reach a listening audience of over 400,000; countless more are engaged via the station’s website.
Either alone or in collaboration with other music/arts organizations, Apollo pursues opportunities to present concerts outside the greater Houston area. We look forward to our Carnegie Hall debut on Friday, October 11th as part of a 2013 East Coast Tour.
The Apollo Chamber Players, currently in its fourth full concert season, has been a dynamic member of the Houston arts community since its founding in 2008. The organization attained non-profit status in early 2009, and since that time Apollo has grown and implemented its mission through season concerts, community outreach, and educational programs in the Greater Houston area. Thanks to the enthusiastic and generous support of the diverse Houston community, Apollo has enjoyed much growth over the past five years. In coming seasons, Apollo will continue to pursue its goal of illuminating the folk traditions of world cultures through the medium of chamber music. |
