Recognized for her commitment to contemporary opera, Ava made her European debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra as The Angel in the United Kingdom premiere of Angels in America, a role she first debuted with Fort Worth Opera. Ava spent two seasons with the Dallas Opera as the company’s first young artist in residence, and enjoys a strong relationship with the company, performing Juliette in matinees of Roméo et Juliette, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Elvira in L’italiana in Algeri, Lady in Waiting in Macbeth, Zozo in The Merry Widow, and Yvette in La rondine. Recent seasons have included performances of Adina in L’elisir d’amore with the Arizona Opera and the Fort Worth Opera, Norina in Don Pasquale with Opera New Jersey, as well as Josephine for Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s H.M.S. Pinafore and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte for Florentine Opera. She also sang Serpina in La serva padrona with the Vestfold Festspillene Festival in Norway. As a Wolf Trap Opera Filene Young Artist, she collaborated on a recital with Steven Blier, and performed as Morgana in Alcina, Musetta in La bohème, and Minerva in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. With Chautauqua Opera, she performed Sophie in Werther and Frasquita in Carmen. Ava was a Grammy nominee (Best Opera Recording 2011) for her work in a period instrument recording with Ars Lyrica of Houston, singing Cleopatra in Hasse’s Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra. A frequent collaborator with early music ensembles, Ava has performed with Boston Baroque in semistaged productions of Xerxes, singing Romilda, and Amadigi di Gaula, singing Melissa. Other performances include the title role in Handel’s Theodora with UNT Baroque Collegium; Bellezza in Handel’s Il trionfo del tempo and Angelo in Handel’s La resurrezione with Ars Lyrica. Highlights from the concert stage include frequent reengagements with the Dallas Symphony for Mozart Requiem and Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2, with Jaap van Zweden, as well as Handel Messiah, Bach B Minor Mass, Fauré Requiem, Nielsen Symphony No. 3, and a series of holiday pops concerts. With her alma mater, Texas Christian University, she has performed Brahms Requiem and Carmina Burana. She also performed the latter with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, as well as a program of Bach cantatas. With the Fort Worth Symphony, she performed rare South American baroque works, and with the Austin Symphony performed the contemporary work Ode to Common Things, by Ratcliff. |
